Logging in to idgard® using the TOTP password (two-factor authentication)

Logging in to idgard® using the T-OTP (time-based one-time Password)

Sensitive data requires a higher level of protection. An authentication app must be installed before the TOTP process can be used. After setting up TOTP, the user must enter a six-digit code in the SMS code field alongside their username and password every time they log in. This code expires after a few seconds and a new one is generated.

Sensitive data requires special protection. The procedure via TOTP requires a previously installed authentication app. You can install the authentication app you want in the browser or in a mobile device. You can use the apps commonly available on the market for this purpose. After the setup of TOTP, the user has to enter a 6-digit code in the code field for SMS every time he logs in, in addition to his username and password. Whereby it should be noted that the numerical code expires after a few seconds and a new numerical code is generated.

Once you–the user–have installed an authentication app, log in to idgard at https://my.idgard.de .   After you have verified your identity with your username and password, you can set up two-factor authentication (T-OTP). Register your authentication app by using it to scan the QR code that is displayed. Then enter the six-digit number code of your authentication program under the QR code in idgard. If you are now able to access idgard, two-factor authentication has been successfully set up.

Should this not be the case, log in to idgard using your username and password without TOTP. You will then be forwarded to the Box overview. Open the settings in the left sidebar and open the "2-FA Settings" tab. An additional QR code will be displayed here. Log out of idgard and repeat the login process again.

First login with the T-OTP method - pairing your credentials with the authentication app

Proceed as follows:

  1. Install any authentication app on your PC, smartphone, or tablet.
  2. Log in to idgard® with your credentials.
  3. You will be shown a QR code with a key.
  4.  Open your authentication app and use it to scan the QR code or manually enter the key in the authentication app.
  5.  A 6-digit code will then appear in the authentication app.
  6.  Enter this code in the lower field below the QR code. This will pair the authentication app with your login data in idgard®.
  7.  Confirm the entry with the "validate" button.
If the TOTP method is successfully set up, you will be redirected to the idgard box overview. Open the settings in the sidebar on the left. Open the 2-FA Settings tab. You can now log in to other clients and apps from the idgard® world via TOPT.

If the login to idgard® failed, you will be redirected once to the idgard® box overview. You will find the QR code again in the settings under the 2FA settings. Perform the pairing between your credentials in idgard® and the authentication app again.

Login to idgard® via T-OTP

Proceed as follows:
  1.     Log in to idgard®.
  2.     Open your authentication app.
  3.     Enter the 6-digit code in the "Passcode" field.

If you find yourself in a situation where you need to replace the authentication app, or you have forgotten your credentials, the 2-FA one-time password method must be removed from the user's profile before the TOPT method can be set up again. Read also this text.
